Planning notes

Most Cairo museums close ticket sales thirty minutes before stated closing time. Friday schedules differ across institutions due to prayer times — the Museum of Islamic Art has a split schedule, while GEM closes early but remains open. Public holidays (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Revolution Day) may bring closures or modified hours; check official announcements within two weeks of travel.

Admission is purchased on-site at museum ticket counters. Card payment acceptance varies — carry sufficient Egyptian Pounds in cash as a fallback. ATMs are available near Tahrir Square and at GEM, but queues can be long on busy mornings.

For the most efficient visit, consult our Online Planner to sequence museums geographically and avoid crossing Cairo during peak traffic hours. Pair schedule data with our Museum Directory for gallery-specific guidance.
